My Top 3 Favorites in Colon St.

If you are a local Cebuano who happen to pass by on a daily basis at Colon Street, you should be able to see these budget street foods we found on the street and at least, tried all of them!

I really can’t help not to grab at least 2 sticks of saang everytime I visit Colon. The taste is very satisfying with the vinegar sauce with lots of onion and spices! Ugh, yummy! ? (Disclaimer: Too much of something might not be good)

2.Sweet Corn (php10-15-20.00 depending on the size)

There’s no reason not to try this stuff. The juicy sweetcorn will definitely complete your day! Pair it up with a cheese flavoring, it’s mouth watering!

3.Tempura and Kwek-Kwek (php10-12.00/3pcs)

This one is an old street food. I remembered few years ago, the tempuras are still on a stick and dip it on your preferred sauce (Sweet or Spicy). Today, it is now placed inside a plastic glass and all you have to do is to put the choice of sauce inside the plastic glass and mix it with the tempura. And oops, a cucumber and a seaweed combination is up for grabs as well.

Kaon ta Sugbo!

Typical Colon Street’s Night Business

Surely you’ve heard legendary tales of street food in Southeast Asian cities like Bangkok and Hanoi, but street food tour in Cebu? Well, to be honest we weren’t so sure in the beginning either but through much research and discovery we’ve come to learn that the markets of Colon, Carbon and Pasil have hidden gems where travellers rarely venture. In fact, in markets like Pasil the chances of meeting travellers are practically nil. That’s how well hidden these local street food eateries are in Cebu.

If you’re one for street food then this is a must do while you’re in Cebu as we’ve designed this street food tour to bring you to the best-kept secrets in Cebu. The tour will start in the famous street of Colon for the Punko-punko experience and chicken barbeque, to continue a street which can only be described as a ?hole in the wall? where you will try siomai, the Filipino Dumpling. After this is the walk along Carbon market towards Pasil where you will visit a soup place known only to the residents of Pasil. This soup place have been running for a few decades now. Inside Pasil, you will also try the famous Tuslob-Buwa : pig’s brain with oil and soy sauce cooked in a wok until bubbles (buwa) are formed through boiling, you will then have your Puso (rice cooked inside a weaved palm leaf) dipped (tuslob) inside the wok to scrape the bubbles formed – this is a communal activity and don’t be surprised if there are locals around you sharing the same Buwa. Finally, dessert! Here you will be taken to a charming old lady making sticky rice with local chocolate and sometimes with fresh Mango – she has had her sticky rice stall there for so long that almost all the residents of Pasil market have grown up eating her super delicious desserts!

If there’s anything else that catches your fancy as we walk along the narrow streets then just let us know and we’ll be happy to let you sample that as well.
